The story of On A Rebel is a story of rebellion. We were built as a refusal against mediocrity and a system that profit from creative talent without honoring it. After years working across film, music, and advertising, our founder Maranata Tegegne saw a recurring pattern: creativity operating in unfair and broken systems. His experience proved one thing: the talent and creative industry in Ethiopia doesn’t lack excellence, it lacks infrastructure, integrity and ownership.
On a Rebel is here to rewrite the rules of the industry. We fuse entertainment, bold storytelling, creative branding and culturally relevant innovations to build a creative ecosystem for Creatives to be honored, not exploited. We use music, events, brand collaborations and creativity as a tool to inspire and build a system for Ethiopian Artists and creatives to own their own work, control their narratives and compete on a global stage.
On A Rebel Creatives was founded by Maranata Tegnegne, a filmmaker and creative director from Addis Ababa with experience in advertising, music, and visual storytelling. He built a reputation combining artistic skill with strategic clarity, directing award-winning music videos and supporting emerging artists, including Ethiopia’s first AFRIMA nomination for Best African Video.
As co-founder of Meedo Records, Maranata witnessed both talent and exploitative systems. Determined to empower creators and challenge broken norms, he founded On A Rebel to create a fair and honest system for African artists, built on real experience rather than theory, giving creativity the respect and global reach it deserves.
